NNPC CEO Bayo Ojulari Leads Executive Team on Strategic Visit to Dangote Refinery

Nigeria’s energy landscape took centre stage as Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), led a high-level delegation of executives to Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The visit, hosted by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote, marks a significant strategic engagement between Nigeria’s national oil company and https://nnpcgroup.com/Africa’s largest privately owned refinery, underscoring renewed collaboration and shared ambition to transform the country’s downstream sector.

The Dangote refinery, with a 650,000-barrel-per-day capacity, represents a bold leap forward in Nigeria’s refining capability and has become a symbol of industrial achievement in the nation.

During the tour, Ojulari and his team inspected key installations, including refinery processing units, the master control room, and harbour infrastructure being upgraded to enhance export logistics.

This on-site evaluation provided NNPC leaders firsthand insight into the refinery’s advanced technological architecture and operational performance, which Ojulari lauded as “world-class” and of strategic importance to Nigeria’s energy future.

In remarks to journalists, the NNPC boss highlighted the audacity and vision behind the refinery’s execution, saying Nigerians should appreciate Dangote’s leadership and the pioneering role his company has played in the sector.

Ojulari noted that observing the refinery physically added depth to his understanding of its capabilities, especially dispelling earlier concerns about its single-train design by pointing to integrated redundancies and high availability rates.

 

Beyond operational admiration, the visit delivered substance on strategic initiatives. Discussions between NNPC and Dangote refinery officials covered plans to deepen port facilities to accommodate larger vessels, expand infrastructure with additional tanker jetties, and enhance export potential of both petroleum products and petrochemicals.

The complex’s evolving role, including planned expansions of fertiliser and petrochemical output, signals Nigeria’s ambition to become a regional industrial and energy logistics hub.

Ojulari also reaffirmed NNPC’s investment interests in Dangote’s operations, aligned with previous indications of increasing its equity stake a move that could further integrate public and private capabilities in achieving energy security, reducing import dependence, and driving industrial growth for Nigeria’s economy.
