FG Disburses ₦4.7bn in First Phase of TVET Payments

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FG) has released ₦4.7 billion as the first tranche of payments under its nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme — directly benefitting over 42,000 trainees and more than 600 accredited training centres across the country.

According to the announcement by the Federal Ministry of Education, each eligible trainee has received a monthly stipend of ₦22,500 intended to cover upkeep and transportation , while the centres have been paid for the instructional and practical training services they provide.

Speaking on the milestone,  Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, described the disbursement as a vital step towards fulfilling the government’s commitment to youth empowerment. “We have commenced the first round of direct payments to trainees and centres across the country,” he said.

“Over 42,000 registered students have now received their monthly ₦22,500 stipend for upkeep and transportation, and more than 600 independent training centres have also been paid ensuring continuity and quality.”

The first tranche marks the shift from registration and verification which began in May to active disbursement and practical-vocational training.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the payment is the beginning of a sustained support mechanism, with further tranches expected in coming months as the TVET initiative expands nationwide.

Beyond supporting young Nigerians’ upkeep and transportation, the funding aims to strengthen the national skills ecosystem. By financing accredited independent centres, the programme seeks to ensure quality skills training — a strategy the government posits will drive job creation, entrepreneurship, and broader economic growth.

Overall, this disbursement underscores the FG’s resolve — under President Bola Ahmed  Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” — to prioritize technical and vocational education as a pathway for youth empowerment, reducing unemployment, and revitalizing Nigeria’s skilled labour force.
