UBA Launches Instant Digital Account Opening Platform, Simplifies Cross-Border Banking

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, widely regarded as Africa’s Global Bank, has officially launched a cutting-edge Instant Account Opening (IAO) platform, offering customers a fully digital, secure, and borderless account onboarding experience.

The platform underscores UBA’s drive to enhance financial inclusion and deepen its digital footprint across Africa.

Prospective customers can now initiate and complete the entire account opening process through the bank’s web-based interface. The platform supports multiple languages and is fully responsive on computers, tablets, and smartphones, ensuring ease of access regardless of device.

However, Users are guided through an intuitive digital Know Your Customer (KYC) process including BVN submission, facial verification, document upload, and digital signature capture  and receive their account number instantly upon completion.

Unlike traditional onboarding that often requires in-person verification and bulk documentation, UBA’s new system delivers fintech-style speed with bank-grade security  eliminating paperwork and branch queues altogether.

The IAO platform is fully aligned with both the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By embracing global best practices, UBA aims to bolster customer confidence, particularly for its diaspora clientele.

Speaking on the new platform, Shamsideen Fashola, Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking at UBA, reiterated the bank’s commitment to democratizing access to financial services across borders.

“At UBA, we continue to redefine the customer experience through innovation and simplicity. This fully digital solution removes traditional barriers and makes it easy for anyone  whether on the continent or in the diaspora — to open an account in minutes.”

The launch   adds to UBA’s expanding suite of digital banking solutions, reinforcing its leadership in technology-driven financial services across Africa. With a presence in 20 African countries and operations in major global markets including the UK, US, France, and the UAE, UBA serves more than 50 million customers worldwide.

The new platform aligns with broader industry trends that emphasize digital transformation, financial inclusion, and mobile-first banking experiences  priorities that are reshaping how financial services are delivered across emerging markets.
