Federal NEC Clears ₦100bn Intervention to Upgrade Security Agencies’ Training Facilities

At its 154ᵗʰ virtual meeting held on Wednesday, the National Economic Council (NEC) approved a substantial ₦100 billion intervention for the rehabilitation and upgrade of training institutions belonging to the police and other security agencies across Nigeria.

In addition, NEC cleared ₦2.6 billion for consultancy services to guide the project’s planning and execution.

The approval follows recommendations from an ad-hoc committee chaired by Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, which had assessed the state of existing training facilities nationwide.

The committee described many schools as being in “deplorable” and “unacceptable” conditions,  lacking basic facilities and essential infrastructure decades after establishment.

Presiding over the meeting, Kashim Shettima, Vice-President and Chairman of NEC, reaffirmed that this funding marks a critical step in translating policy into tangible outcomes. “Our task is not to admire problems, but to solve them,” he stated, urging state governors to ensure visible improvements in security institutions and for governance to yield real results in the lives of individuals in the country.

Once ratified by  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the funding will be channelled through the relevant ministries and security-agency oversight bodies,  a financial commitment expected to improve training quality, upgrade dilapidated infrastructure, and enhance professional capacity within Nigeria’s security architecture.
