Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Presents ₦985.9 Billion ‘People-Centred’ 2026 Budget to State Assembly

On 1 December 2025,  Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, unveiled a ₦985.9 billion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year before the state House of Assembly.

The budget — described as “people-centred” — was formulated following one of the widest consultations ever held in the state, engaging traditional rulers, civil society groups, women’s organisations, youth associations, business leaders, and vulnerable community members from all local governments.

The proposal allocates ₦734.2 billion to recurrent revenue and ₦251.6 billion to capital receipts. Notably, 71% of total spending is dedicated to capital projects, underscoring Kaduna’s development priorities.

Key sector allocations include 25% each to education and infrastructure, 15% to health, 11% to agriculture, 6% to security, 5% to social development, 5% to governance, and 4% to climate action

In a major push for grassroots development, every one of the state’s 255 political wards will receive ₦100 million for community-identified projects under the Ward Development Committee scheme — a model described as among the largest grassroots budgeting initiatives in Nigeria.

Governor Sani urged the legislature to expedite review of the bill, terming it “a blueprint for renewal, resilience and inclusive growth.” and emphasized that this budget is designed to touch “every home, every ward, every Local Government Area.”

The 2026 plan aims to consolidate gains in security, infrastructure, education, rural transformation and social welfare — signalling a strong commitment to balanced development across urban and rural Kaduna.
