Kano Free Trade Zone Achieves N18bn Revenue Milestone

The Kano Free Trade Zone (KFTZ) has recorded a major breakthrough in 2025, generating over ₦18 billion in internal revenue through the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).

In addition, customs revenue from activities within the zone stood at ₦17 billion between January and October, reflecting a renewed surge in trade, manufacturing output, and overall economic activity within the zone.

This milestone underscores the growing importance of free-trade zones in boosting Nigeria’s non-oil revenue and diversifying the economy. NEPZA officials noted that investments in the zone have increased significantly, driven by improved regulatory collaboration, upgraded infrastructure, and stronger investor confidence. Many businesses operating within the zone have expanded their production lines, while new manufacturers have also entered the space, contributing to higher export volumes and industrial output.

“The KFTZ’s strong performance signals a major shift towards export-driven industrialisation in Northern Nigeria — an area long overdue for large-scale economic transformation.”

The rise in revenue has also been attributed to the efficient coordination among NEPZA, customs, NAFDAC, and other regulators, ensuring smoother processes and reduced bottlenecks. However, authorities emphasize the need to maintain strict oversight to prevent abuse of duty-free privileges and to ensure that firms operating in the zone remain export-focused.

Overall, the ₦18 billion milestone positions the Kano Free Trade Zone as a key driver of industrial growth, job creation, and non-oil revenue expansion. It also reinforces the potential of free-trade zones to reshape regional economies, attract long-term investments, and support Nigeria’s broader economic diversification agenda.
