Oyo State Governor Makinde Unveils N892bn 2026 Budget Plan

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday presented a N891.99 billion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year, the presentation ceremony was held on the floor of the State House of Assembly, Secretariat, Agodi, in Ibadan, the state capital. — tagged the “Budget of Economic Expansion” — before the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan.

Compared with the N684 billion approved for 2025, the new proposal marks a significant increase and reflects a shift toward capital‑intensive spending.

Of the total, N389.34 billion is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N502.65 billion is devoted to capital expenditure — highlighting a strong emphasis on infrastructure and long‑term development.

Breaking down sectoral allocations, the infrastructure sector leads with N210.02 billion, followed by education with N155.21 billion, health with N70.81 billion, and agriculture with N19.99 billion. Other multi -sectoral initiatives account for N435.9 billion.

Governor Makinde said the budget is designed to convert stability into opportunity by linking infrastructure development, human‑capital growth, and economic innovation.

Among the flagship plans are the development of the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, logistics and dry‑port facilities, upgrading the Ladoke Akintola Airport, and construction of the 110‑kilometre Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road — aimed at connecting major commercial corridors across the state.

The Speaker of the State Assembly described the proposal as “ambitious” and “people‑centred,” noting it was shaped by extensive consultations across all seven geopolitical zones in Oyo State.
